Michelle and Maria cycle their way to £330 for Battersea!

From 24th May to 30th May 2021, Michelle Matthews, Receptionist/Administrator and Maria Demetriou, Management Systems Administrator, set themselves up in their living rooms, riding a virtual extended route from London to Brighton (55 miles each!) and have amazingly raised £330, surpassing their £250 target for the leading animal welfare charity Battersea!

Talking about the challenge, Michelle said: “It’s been great fun! I set myself a target distance of 7.8 miles and made sure to hit that every night before allowing myself to enjoy dinner and relax. Whenever I struggled to get through the distance, I found that picturing the dogs and cats who need our help kept me motivated.”

Similar to other charities, Battersea has been significantly impacted by the difficulty surrounding fundraising as a result of the pandemic. Pets – cats and dogs especially – have played a massive part in keeping everyone’s spirits up during multiple lockdowns and extended periods of social distancing. This is just one way to say thank you by raising money for a worthwhile cause.

Emily Hugo, Senior Fundraising Officer, comments: “Battersea is reliant on the generosity of the public to help us continue to be here for every dog and cat. The money raised from this virtual 55-mile bike ride will help provide essential care for the dogs and cats at Battersea until we find them loving new homes.

“We are incredibly grateful to Michelle and Maria for raising money for Battersea and everyone who generously supported them with their virtual London to Brighton bike ride. A big congratulations on completing the challenge from all the dogs, cats and humans at Battersea!”

Great work girls, it’s definitely time for some well deserved rest!
