Rob Brazier Celebrates 10 years with Pexhurst!

To mark this impressive milestone, we caught up with Rob to hear more about his time with us!

1.What was your initial appeal to working at Pexhurst?
Despite having a varied employment background, I have never had any involvement with industrial buildings and had worked primarily as a quantity surveyor rather than a contracts manager. The initial appeal was that the company was local and had that close-knit feel, the role also appealed to me as it seemed to combine my more practical and technical background with my Quantity Surveying and contractual background.

2. Do you remember your first day and if so can you describe it?
On the first day, I was sitting opposite Lee Stuart and all you could hear was Michael Munroe on the phone all day, who was based on the same side of the office as the Contracts Managers back then! I then remember being handed a big pile of documents and the Estimator said, “here is your first project, the University of Hertfordshire Block R Law offices, it starts today so you are already behind!”

3. What is your favourite thing about coming to work every day?
Not one thing but lots of things. I like solving technical problems and finding solutions. Plus, I like the mix of being in the office and out on site with the variation of a new project every 6 to 12 weeks in a different place, with different consultants and subcontractors.

4. What is your fondest work memory?
My fondest work memory has to be completing the £1.9 million project for the University of Hertfordshire where we re-vamped the Atrium to become a multi-purpose working, teaching and relaxation environment. In order to ensure the area was ready for students in the upcoming term, the project was a 7 day a week 24 hour a day programme! But this made it all the more memorable when we delivered the project on time and on budget.

5. What are you looking forward to next?
I have a couple of interesting structural steelwork projects, one involving removing columns and one involving raising an entire warehouse roof! So I am looking forward to seeing how they turn out as they very much appeal to my technical side. Moreover, following on from qualifying as a Site Sustainability Manager, I am also looking forward to having the opportunity of completing a BREEAM project.
